Herringbone Parquet Flooring Project – Co. Dublin
One of our most notable projects was the installation of herringbone parquet flooring in a historic church in Dublin over 14 years ago — and today, the floor is still in perfect condition.
Working alongside an architect in Dublin, we were asked to source and fit a specific block size (300×50×22mm) to meet the design and structural requirements of the building. After detailed consultations, we selected solid oak herringbone flooring as the most suitable option for stability, durability, and long-term performance.
Overcoming installation challenges
The project involved several technical challenges:
Moisture issues: Subfloor readings revealed high moisture levels.
Missing DPM: There was no damp-proof membrane installed in the concrete floors.
Expansion requirements: To ensure long-term stability, we applied expansion gaps every 2 metres.
To address these issues, we installed a DPM layer and used Laydex and Bostik products for optimal bonding and protection.
Results after 14 years
Thanks to careful planning, high-quality materials, and expert installation, this herringbone parquet floor has remained stable, durable, and visually stunning for more than a decade. Minimal maintenance has been required, proving why herringbone parquet flooring is such a reliable, long-lasting choice for both residential and commercial projects.
