This completed project was finished just in time for the end 2023. MM Parquet and Carpentry had the pleasure of working on the old railway station in Portarlington, Co Laois. This project was taken on and had a lot of preservation work done to the building by the building contractor.

The client wanted a durable and sustainable flooring option that would complement the modern and energy-efficient heating system that was installed. After careful consideration, we recommended a solid oak plank flooring due to its strength, longevity, and timeless beauty.

Our team of skilled craftsmen meticulously installed the solid oak planks, ensuring a seamless and flawless finish. We paid close attention to every detail, from the precise measurements to the long length patterns created by the natural grain of the wood and as this was going to be a working office area there were more cut out details required.

The result was a stunning and elegant plank floor that added warmth and character to the space. The solid oak planks not only enhanced the overall aesthetic appeal of the old Train station, but also provided a comfortable and luxurious feel underfoot.

Additionally, the choice of solid oak flooring was a sustainable one. Oak is a renewable resource, and its durability ensures it will last for generations, reducing the need for frequent replacements. This product as it is 22mm in depth is ideal for any underfloor heating system, to ensure optimal performance of the solid oak plank flooring. We implemented a Bluetooth monitoring chip that allowed us to override and control the heating system, ensuring that the floor temperature remained at the correct level for the solid oak planks and was a major help to the contractor, as it allowed the works to carry on until the underfloor heating system was fully commissioned.

By closely monitoring the temperature and making necessary adjustments, we could prevent any potential damage to the flooring due to temperature fluctuations. This added layer of control and precision allowed us to safeguard the longevity and beauty of the solid oak plank floor.
