When it comes to parquet flooring and plank flooring, parquet flooring stands out for its durability, aesthetic appeal, and versatility. This blog will provide insights into why this process is essential and how it contributes to the overall quality and longevity of your flooring. Here at MM Parquet and carpentry we have used many different products over the years and to be honest many have come up short after some time has passed , but with the Bona lacquer this just doesn’t happen.
Sanding and polishing are not just cosmetic; they are vital steps in maintaining the integrity of solid parquet floors. Over time, even the best-maintained floors can accumulate scratches, scuffs, and wear, diminishing their beauty and lifespan. Here, we highlight the benefits of using bona lacquers. It is important that sanding removes imperfections, bringing back the original smoothness of the parquet flooring or your plank flooring . Polishing with high-quality Bona lacquers with the primers enhances the natural beauty and grain of the wood, resulting in a stunning finish that elevates your space.
The application of Bona lacquer like the Bona traffic , creates a protective barrier against moisture and stains, helping to prolong the life of your parquet flooring or your plank flooring
Regular maintenance, including sanding and polishing, can prevent the need for more extensive renovations, saving time and money in the long run.
The type of sanding process is critical for preparing the surface of the parquet flooring before any finishes are applied.
Here’s how we do it:
- Before beginning, we assess the condition of the floor to determine the appropriate level of sanding needed. This ensures we use the right equipment and grit sizes.
- We clear the space of furniture and other obstacles, and use protective measures to ensure that dust and debris are contained.
- Using professional-grade sanders, we typically start with coarse-grit sandpaper and gradually move to finer grits.
This step involves:
- Removing the old finish allows us to start with a clean slate.
- Smoothing out imperfections, scratches and dents are effectively removed, resulting in an even surface.
- After sanding, we clean the floors to eliminate any dust particles that could interfere with the bona lacquer application.
- Once sanding is complete, we move on to the polishing phase, using Bonea lacquer polishes for their superior quality and performance.
We select Bona lacquers primers known for their durability and natural finish. The lacquer enhances the wood grain and provides a rich and beautiful finish . In the Bana primer range there are a good few tones to choose from like bona white, bona raw, bona enhanced and bona amber , all of which when finished with bona domo and bona traffic can leave a very durable finish which will last for many years.
We apply the lacquer using a combination of a 4 coat process to ensure an even and smooth distribution.
The application process involves:
Typically, multiple coats are applied to achieve the desired sheen , tone and durability based on the amount of traffic on your floors
Each coat requires adequate drying time before applying the next to ensure a perfect finish.
