Proper maintenance of both solid and engineered parquet flooring is essential to keep them looking beautiful and prolong their lifespan. Here are some of our best practices for maintaining our parquet flooring

It’s essential to identify the correct products for maintaining your parquet flooring, depending on the type of finish—be it polish lacquer or a wax oil finish .

Here’s a breakdown of suitable products for each type, along with application tips:

Polished Lacquered Parquet Floors

Bona Refresher is a pH-neutral cleaner specifically designed for polished lacquered floors and helps maintain the shine without damaging the finish.
With Bona water-based hardwood floor polish is designed for sealed finishes. This helps enhance the shine and protect the surface. Vacuum or sweep the floor thoroughly using a soft flat mop, apply the polish in thin, even coats, allowing it to dry completely before walking on the floor.

Wax-Oiled Parquet Floors

Bona Oil Refresher is a high-quality product that is compatible with existing wax oiled finishes. This refresher is formulated specifically for wax oiled floors to ensure safe cleaning without stripping the wax oil. Clean the floor using a lightly damp flat mop to remove dirt and old marks

How to use

Apply the oil refresher using a soft cloth or flat mop. Spread evenly with a soft pad or cloth once it dries.
Periodically, apply a maintenance oil compatible with the original finish to nourish the wood and restore its lustre. Use the Bona oil refresher to remove dirt and dust, following the manufacturer’s guidelines

Always check product labels for compatibility with your existing finishes. Establish a regular maintenance routine based on the type of finish used to sustain the appearance and longevity of your parquet floors.

Avoid excessive water as it can damage the wood over long periods of time

Protective Measures:

  • Furniture Pads , is a must and place felt pads under furniture legs to prevent scratching.
  • Rugs and Mats are recommended in high-traffic areas to protect the flooring from wear and tear. Make sure the rugs have a non-slip backing.

Solid Parquet Flooring Refinishing

Solid parquet can be sanded and refinished multiple times. Depending on the wear, consider refinishing every 5 to 10 years. Maintain indoor humidity levels between 30% and 50% to prevent the wood from expanding or contracting, which can lead to gaps or warping. Avoiding Direct sunlight , using curtains or blinds to reduce direct sunlight exposure to minimize fading.

Engineered Parquet Flooring

Since engineered wood is more moisture-resistant than solid wood but still prone to damage from excess moisture, avoid soaking it or using steam cleaners to often.
Use cleaners specifically designed for engineered wood floors to prevent damage to the finish , which again would be the same prose as the #bona refresher or oil refresher.
