Parquet Flooring – Sanding, Polishing & Maintenance
MM Parquet has an extensive background in all aspects of parquet flooring and carpentry. We have just as much knowledge when it comes to sanding and polishing all types of parquet flooring and plank flooring as we do with the fitting. When it comes to colours and floor finishes you can get all your flooring requirements from MM Parquet.
Wear and Tear on your parquet or engineered floor can always be repaired and you can return them back to their original state and make them look as good as new.
When you have your parquet flooring sanded right back to the raw timber, usually the next process is to give the clients a range of colour and tones to choose from, as this will have to be done to get the design and atmosphere of the area correct. It is important to discuss the type of lacquer or oil finishes you are going to apply when polishing any parquet flooring. The right percentage of the sheen is also especially important to get right and always discuss this when it’s being decided. Most of the time depending on the density of the parquet flooring will determine the number of coats to be given and this is one of our methods here at MM Parquet we apply minimum 4-5 coats on softer parquet flooring like red deals, white deals, pine, walnut and even some merbau timbers. When it comes to more dense parquet flooring like oak, ash, mahogany, teak, or any iron wood you only need 3-4 coats, all these factors are adjusted when it comes to traffic and how much an area is being used.
Parquet Flooring Maintenance Care
When it comes to this part of your parquet flooring, all you can do is advise your clients on the best way of doing this. If the correct maintenance methods are not followed from the very first stages after sanding, the polishing of your parquet flooring will slowly deteriorate over time and scuff marks will appear along with scratches and scrapes. So, the whole idea of maintaining your parquet flooring is to use your maintenance polish once or twice every 2-3 weeks. MM Parquet & Carpentry only recommend Bona products for maintaining your parquet flooring, which you can purchase directly from bona.ie. Once this is done you are now protecting the original polish that was put on your parquet flooring and this way you will get many more years out of your parquet flooring.
Under no circumstance should your parquet flooring be washed regularly with buckets of water. This is definitely the worst thing that you could do to solid floors. If this happens the water builds up in all the joints, it will cause the polish on your parquet flooring to break down and eventually you will get grey patches appearing in high traffic areas of parquet flooring and plank flooring. If something spills or falls on the floors by all means clean with a damp mop or cloth, but your parquet flooring should always be cleaned with some type of floor maintenance from bona.ie and then hoovering or sweeping of your parquet flooring is all you need to keep it looking good. If these steps are followed you should only need a sand and polish every 10 years.
These procedures are quite simple to follow and if they are carried out correctly you can have a great looking parquet flooring for many years.
